February 10, 2019 Sermon

Ever have a 'basic blessing'? A close parking spot opened up. Someone you'll never meet picked up your restaurant tab. But, then there are 'big blessings'...a new job, a new car, or a new baby. How about a 'shockingly-excessive, monsterous blessing'? These outrageous blessings happen rarely, but show us just how powerful Jesus is. Medical science couldn't figure it out or a sudden large financial blessing appeared that couldn't have been anything other than an Act of God.

In Luke, the people were so hungry for the Message of God that they were crowding around Jesus. They just wanted to hear even one word. They had a passionate desire to hear the Word of God. Jesus was so crowded that He was being pushed into the water. When we listen to the Word of God, we need to know that it matters where the Word comes from. Your life depends on how the Word is delivered. Not every church preaches that you can be healed or that there is a plan & destiny for you. Some churches hide the Holy Spirit. But, when the Living Word is shared, the crowds will swell to hear just one phrase so that they can be close to Blessings and Miracles.

Have you ever gone out and poured your heart out and toiled in fishing for Christ, yet come up empty-netted. This may happen over and over until we decide to park the boat. God does not want you to quit, or park your boat. He never said that it would be easy. Do not be weary in doing good in that we'll get a harvest if we don't faint. Sometimes we park the boat, but Jesus will climb into our boat. You give up, you're done...then The Lord climbs in and says "Let's go." When the Word goes from being preached to into your boat, great things happen. It may take time for the Word to get into you, into your heart. The seed will produce the blessing. God wants to bless you so that you'll be a blessing for others.

God doesn't want us to just be a hearer of the Word, but a doer of the Word. The wise man hears the Word and does something with it. Others will hear the Word and keep the boat in the harbor. When we obey the Word, we put ourselves in the position to receive the blessing. God wants to bless you physically, mentally, financially, emotionally...every aspect of your life. We need to get in the boat and pull out of the harbor.

Remember the story of the woman instructed by God to collect empty jars to fill with oil? Imagine going around town to get the large jars to fill with oil, yet she only had a few ounces of oil herself. When she started pouring, when did the oil stop? When the large jar she collected was filled. She obeyed God and His Blessing literally poured out so large that most couldn't believe it...but she did. She followed outrageous instruction and received outrageous blessing.

Imagine that if we think about parking our boats and hoarding our opportunities for blessings. What if this act held back the blessings of others? Parking your boat doesn't just affect you, but countless others that you don't ever realize. We ought to pull the boat out of the harbor and fish until we receive the Lord's Blessings and allow Him to work through us so that He may provide His Blessings to others.

Move your boat from the harbor and go fishing!
