Jochebed the Great
Moses was born during a time of severe adversity.
Pharaoh issued an order to kill all newborn Israelite males. When Moses was born his mother, Jochebed, defied the order and hid Moses as long as possible. She decided to make a small waterproof basket and hide him in the Nile. In God's providence, he was discovered by Pharaoh's daughter, who took pity on him. God gives us favor with others.
Moses was called to be the deliver for God's people. What destiny has God called you to?
Jochebed, the mother of Moses, had only a few short years to shape his life. She pushed her own feelings and interests aside and invested in the life of her son. Remember, when your adversary is planning for your demise, God is preparing foryour salvation.
The birth of Jesus was very similar. An angel of the Lord told Joseph to escape to Egypt, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him. In both examples, other people were instrumental in protecting the innocent, the helpless, until the deliver was ready to accomplish what God had called them to.
Satan always seem to know when God is about to do something great. Satan wants to destroy the means of deliverance, but God makes a way of escape. Moses killed an Egyptian that was beating his fellow Israelite.
We may have the call of God for greatest, but we must do things God's way and in God's time.
Moses spent 40 years on the back side of the desert before he was ready to step into the role God had for him. Often the thing we are going through is preparing us for what lies ahead.
Alexander Maclaren wrote: "What disturbs us in this world is not trouble, but our opposition to trouble."
Are we, as a local church, ready for what God has for us? "If we could see the hands of time on Heaven's clock, oh, how it might change our perspective!"
